A predictable and recognizable pattern in narcissistic relationships, consisting of four distinct stages:
Love Bombing (Idealization)
Let's look at each stage.
During the love bombing stage, the narcissist:
Showers their victim with affection, attention, and praise
Overwhelms with lavish gifts, trips, meals
Creates a feeling of euphoria
Develops a strong attachment
This is the bait that gets you hooked
During the devaluing stage:
You're pushed off that pedestal
Constant belittling, criticism, and demeaning behavior
You're walking on eggshells
Affection disappears, leaving you confused and self-blaming
During the discarding stage:
The narcissist sees you as flawed and useless
You're treated as disposable
Emotional (sometimes physical) abandonment
They move on to "greener pastures"
During the hoovering stage:
The narcissist tries to "suck you back in"
May involve grand gestures or promises to change
Designed to restart the cycle
Remember: This cycle can repeat many times. Recognizing it is the first step to breaking free. You deserve consistent love and respect, not this emotional rollercoaster!
